WELS is facing major cuts across all areas of ministry due particularly to the poor economy affecting the ability of a couple major donors to complete large gifts. The Old Testament Year of Jubilee is meant to teach God's people to put our trust in him. He provides for our earthly needs. Moreover, he redeems us from our slavery to sin!
WELS is celebrating God's grace during a Year of Jubilee from June 2008 through July 2009. A thank offering is being collected with the goal of gathering $22.4 million to eliminate the synod's debt. Reducing or eliminating this debt would free up to $2.7 million a year to then "proclaim the year of the Lord's favor" to prisoners of darkness around the world.
World Missions Seminary Professor
The World Missions Seminary Professor arranges for the professors at our Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary to travel and teach at the seminaries of our sister churches around the world. It allows WELS to share more than 150 years of pastoral training experience and, in turn, enriches the teaching at our Seminary.
WELS Youth Discipleship realizes that technology plays a prominent role in young people's lives, so they launched the LivingBold Web site for teens in 2000. Your gift in support of LivingBold will help keep relevant this site which is one more vehicle with which to reach teens with the good news of Jesus and to keep them connected to their congregations and involved with their church body.
WELS' endowment funds help to ensure long-term financial stability to ministry during the many ups and downs of the economy. Endowments do this by providing regular predictable support, which is made possible by maintaining the funds' principal and only using a portion of the growth annually to support ministry.
