Japan
Japan remains one of hardest places on the planet to do mission work. Only the Lord knows the number of those who belong to him, but it is estimated that only one percent of the people of Japan are Christian. To shine the light of the gospel in this dark land, the Lutheran Evangelical Confessional Church has about 400 members in six congregations. Those congregations are all in the Kanto Plain, near Tokyo. Those congregations are being served by three national pastors and one WELS missionary. Besides local outreach activities at the churches and the friendship evangelism of the its members, the Lutheran Evangelical Confessional Church also seeks to proclaim the name of Jesus through the internet. It rejoices in the fellowship it shares with WELS, Evangelical Lutheran Synod (ELS), and the other sister synods and joins them in confessing, "We look for the resurrection of the dead and life of the world to come."
Mission updates
The core members of the Lutheran Evangelical Confessional Church love the Lord and his Word and are eager to be faithful witnesses. The members in Tokyo are praying and planning for a new worship facility. Their building fund, which was started a few years back, receives weekly contributions. At Christmas there were many worship services and outreach activities with many visitors. The seeds of the gospel were planted. The older members of the church body are working hard to encourage and train the younger members for works of service in the church. The Tokyo congregation has five young people attending WELS schools in Wisconsin and Minnesota.

Please pray for the people of Japan who were devasted by a tsunami and earthquake, and are still searching for loved ones; and that we help those in Japan during their time of need—both with aid for physical needs and by sharing the unconditional love that you have for all people.
