New Bible story lessons for children and adults
More than ten years ago, some 90 of the illustrated Bible stories produced by Dr. William Beck for the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod were gathered into a book, entitled Bible Stories in Pictures. This book has been translated into the Albanian, Chewa (for Central Africa), Hindi (for India), Indonesian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Telugu (for India), and the Thai languages. The Bible School and Correspondence Program in Pakistan is producing it in booklet form in the Urdu language.
Now Beth and Charles Flunker have produced lessons in the English language for three reading levels to teach these stories in a classroom setting. Levels one and two have already been translated into Portuguese and Spanish. The third level is being translated into Spanish. While the lessons Beth describes in this issue were designed to work with Bible Stories in Pictures, the material could also be used without the book.
Charles has been a WELS missionary in Brazil for more than 25 years after serving a Spanish-speaking field in Puerto Rico for more than ten years. The Flunkers produced the Spanish Sunday School series that has been used for many years in Latin America. The stories from that series have been translated into English, and used in translation in Pakistan and Nepal.
