ECM district coordinators meet
On June 24-25 the early childhood district coordinators from 11 districts met in Milwaukee to rejoice in the blessings God has provided and to identify and address some of the critical issues. The early childhood district coordinators serve as contacts for information, support, resources, and encouragement for the early childhood ministries, directors, and teachers in each district.
Each day almost 11,000 children and their families walk through the doors of early childhood ministries (ECM) in 36 states and Antigua. Since July of 2011, more than 35 congregations have called the Commission on Lutheran Schools as they considered opening, expanding, or revitalizing an early childhood ministry in their congregation. Each day the Lord provides opportunities to share the gospel with the little ones and their families. What a great mission field the Lord has provided right in our own neighborhoods!
As they considered these blessings in light of the Great Commission, the group felt a sense of urgency in their work both at their own ministries and within their districts. While they rejoiced in the growth of ECMs, they considered Christ’s command to “go” and were eager to find ways to be diligent and faithful in the privilege of sharing the gospel.
As they stopped to thank God for the blessings and opportunities, the coordinators worked to address critical issues in early childhood ministry. Among the issues addressed were finding ways to maximize on the opportunities to reach out with the gospel and also nurture the families served. The group also looked at ways to build communication among the districts to support, encourage, and supply resources for those serving in each district. Finally they looked at current resources that are available and identified resources to consider.
As the two days of meetings came to a close, the group reflected on the privilege of serving and the power of the Holy Spirit’s work among his people. When considering the picture of Christ holding the little ones in His arms, the words of Psalm 90:16-17 were among the closing thoughts: “May your deeds be shown to your servants, your splendor to their children. May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us: establish the work of our hands for us—yes, establish the work of our hands.”
