The 63rd biennial convention of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod will be held at Michigan Lutheran Seminary (MLS) in Saginaw, Mich., July 27-30, 2015. The theme is "One in Christ." The synod's first vice president, Rev. James Huebner, will present an essay on the theme.
During the convention, called workers and lay members will hear presentations, discuss issues, and make decisions related to the synod's work, including setting a ministry plan (budget) for the next biennium. Two offices to be filled by election are the synod president and second vice president, positions currently held by Rev. Mark Schroeder and Rev. Joel Voss, respectively. Both are eligible for re-election to another four-year term.
Submit a Memorial to the Convention The deadline for submitting memorials to be printed in the Book of Reports and Memorials is Jan. 15, 2015. Memorials submitted after Jan. 15 and approved for convention consideration will be posted on the convention Web site, www.wels.net/2015synodconvention, if they are received by June 1, 2015. A memorial, usually composed of a series of “whereas” and “resolved” statements, is a formal petition to the synod convention that requests consideration for a particular item of business. Memorials may be submitted by synodical entities, congregations, circuits, conferences, or districts. They also may be submitted by individuals; no more than three signatures may accompany the memorial. Anyone wishing to lend individual support to a memorial can express such support in writing to the convention floor committee assigned to deal with the memorial.
