Pastor Glen Schmiege baptized Lin Cong, and Ching-Pi Lin. Cong; his daughter, Candy; and wife, Lanju Yang, on Feb. 10 at Eastside, Madison, Wis. The family began taking English as a Second Language classes at Eastside in October 2007, and decided they wanted to be baptized around the Chinese New Year. “My husband [Pastor Schmiege] did the baptism and Ching-Pi Lin, a [Pastoral Studies Institute] student at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary, translated into Mandarin,” says Karen Schmiege. “Because of the language barrier, our congregation members haven’t really had a lot of communication with Chinese-speaking people. So this was a nice experience for them, too.”
