WELS NEWS BRIEFS -- August 2010
COMMISSION ON SPECIAL MINISTRIES - 414-256-3240
On Sept. 14-15, WELS Military Services will hold a WELS Military Contact Pastor Conference in Norfolk, Va. The conference will provide opportunities for WELS civilian chaplains to the military to enhance their knowledge of military life and to network with other chaplains. WELS currently has 120 civilian chaplains.
COMMISSION ON LUTHERAN SCHOOLS - 414-256-3221
Thirty-four WELS educators from around the country—including district school coordinators, area Lutheran high school and prep school teachers, and professors from Martin Luther College and Wisconsin Lutheran College—came to Milwaukee in June to learn how to present Leadership Institute Modules. These ten half-day training sessions, developed by the New Teacher Center in Santa Cruz, Calif., are designed to help new and experienced principals, early childhood ministry directors, and other school leaders improve their leadership skills. These men will now set up and co-present modules in their districts, while Lutheran Schools will offer administrative support. A more formal schedule of courses is being planned for 2011.
