Translation Feasibility Committee begins its work
Translation Feasibility Committee begins its work
The 2011 synod convention asked for a task force to be created to study the feasibility of producing a confessional Lutheran translation of the Bible and/or producing study Bible notes to accompany the Bible translation that WELS chooses for its synod publications.
President Mark Schroeder appointed the members of the Translation Feasibility Committee, which presented its initial findings to 2012 district convention delegates. In its report, the Translation Feasibility Committee noted that "a project worth undertaking would be one that results in translation/ revision of the highest quality that would be a gift to the church and a unifying translation for our synod" and that "such a project would require significant investment of money and manpower with much of the leadership stemming from our language instructors at the ministerial education schools."
Although the committee is continuing to study the feasibility of both projects, initial research indicates that a lack of money and manpower will make these projects difficult to achieve.

Bible translation revision
Have you heard that the publishers of the New International Version (NIV) of the Bible have updated the translation? A Translation Evaluation Committee has been established to study and examine this new translation, along with other English language translations. The committee has compiled essays, information, and studies on the topic.
