Frey accepts call to be MLS president
On Sun., Jan. 17, Rev. Aaron Frey accepted the call to be president of Michigan Lutheran Seminary (MLS), Saginaw, Mich. MLS is one of two WELS preparatory high schools dedicated to preparing future called workers.
The position of MLS president has been vacant since March 2009 when Rev. Paul Prange accepted a call to be the administrator of WELS Board for Ministerial Education. Frey, currently pastor at Emanuel, Tawas City, Mich., is hoping to transition to MLS by late February.
"I believe that my first job at MLS is to listen and learn," says Frey. "I'll be dedicated to that for a while, trusting in the very talented and very experienced faculty and staff at MLS to help me grow in my understanding of those things that I need to know in order to serve our school and our synod well in this call."
Frey, a 1998 graduate of Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary, Mequon, Wis., also graduated from MLS. Although some things have changed since his years at MLS, Frey notes: "The thing that remains the same more than anything else is the seminary family. What a blessing this is to the students, family, and faculty, as well as to our synod. The gospel is at the center of that family. They work hard to support MLS because they know how many of those students will be sharing God's saving message in classrooms, pulpits, and mission stations throughout the world. That, I pray, will never change."
