Congregations across the synod are preparing for "Walking Together," an annual celebration of the work accomplished by God's grace through our church body. "The 'Walking Together' celebration is intended to be a time for us as members of WELS to offer our Lord prayers of praise and offerings of thanksgiving," says Rev. David Liggett, director of the Ministry of Christian Giving.

This year's theme is Revelation 14:6, which describes the gospel being proclaimed "to every nation, tribe, language and people." "As we take a look at the work being done by WELS throughout the world, we see attempts to do just that," Liggett says, "to share with every nation, tribe, language and people the good news that Jesus is their Savior."

Most congregations will be celebrating "Walking Together" in September. Many will be conducting special worship services and offerings. One highlight is the DVD produced for all congregations. This year it portrays the role all of our synod's ministries have played in establishing Sure Foundation Lutheran Church in New York City. "Sure Foundation is a classic example of what John saw in his revelation—many different tribes, languages, and people being served by the gospel," Liggett says.

Good Shepherd, West Bend, Wis., chose to hold its "Walking Together" celebration in May. Rev. Bob Hein, pastor at Good Shepherd, says he appreciates this year's mission focus, although his congregation would participate no matter what the focus. " 'Walking Together' is a positive thing. It puts the synod in front of all of our people," he says. "People need to hear the good stuff—that we're still preaching the Word and reaching people with the gospel."

Note for pastors: "Walking Together" resources—including posters, brochures, offering coupons, and return envelopes—were mailed to your congregation in early July. Contact the Christian Giving office if you have not received them. Please note that this year's September WELS Connection episode is the "Walking Together" presentation. Non-subscribing congregations should have received that video presentation in the July mailing.
