The synod has begun a nationwide search for a new director of Communication Services. WELS' director of Communication Services is responsible for coordinating all internal and external communications for WELS.

“This position is important for two reasons,” says Rev. Mark Schroeder, WELS president. “It’s vitally important that members of our synod are kept informed about the work we do together in proclaiming the saving gospel of Jesus to as many people as possible. This communication needs to be timely, consistent, and accurate. The director of communications is responsible for seeing to it that all communications efforts of the synod accomplish this. Second, the director of communications is often asked by the news media to comment on synod-related matters. In that position, he will speak for the synod and needs to communicate the synod’s positions clearly.”

Other responsibilities include assisting areas of ministry, synod schools, and district leaders in planning and developing communication strategies and tools as well as developing strategies to promote and maintain WELS’ identity and image.

Candidates must be active members of WELS or the Evangelical Lutheran Synod. They must also possess at minimum a bachelor’s degree in a communications-related field, 10 years of experience in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
