Lutheran Girl Pioneers Go Green
Lutheran Girl Pioneers Go Green

You don’t see a lot of green butterflies in nature. But a green butterfly is the logo for the 2012 Lutheran Girl Pioneer (LGP) International Convention taking place this weekend at Camp Phillip in Wautoma, Wis.
In an age when family connections are being torn apart, the Lutheran Girl Pioneers promote bonding among family members and among the family of believers.
LGP is a Christ-centered youth program for girls of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Church and those in fellowship with the WELS.
Although camping and building fires might come to mind when you hear of Pioneers, today Pioneers is so much more. It is an opportunity for girls to discover and develop interests in many areas. Girls may choose to explore art, drama, photography, leadership, pet care, or gardening—just to name a few.
This convention brings together girls from all over the world, and this year they will be looking at “going green.”
American society today is very conscious of “going green.” Communities spend a lot of money developing renewable resources, self-sustaining building products, and recycling programs.
Green means life. As Christians, we know our responsibility to be good stewards of life on earth. But even more important are the souls of mankind who are hungering for the life-giving message of the gospel.
LGP lives “green” daily through the promise of renewal and new life in Christ. The convention organizers chose the butterfly as the logo since it is a symbol of new life through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. We will live again and be made new in heaven. What better “green” could there be?
LGP strives to help each girl become a happy, confident and useful member of her church, school, home, and community. It is the organization’s goal to help girls realize the joy of a Christ-centered life.
